Rescue Me ID: 18-02-02-00131Daisy (female)

Dachshund    Age: Senior

Meet Daisy the Dachshund! This absolutely adorable girl is reportedly about 12 years young. She's really quite spry! She has no problem at all with steps, jumping onto the couch, pouncing up and down excitedly when it's mealtime, and she loves going on walks! Daisy came from the Manassas City shelter. Although she was reported as an owner surrender, she had vet records with her from the past few years and had been getting regular exams and vaccines. So, while it's unclear as to the circumstances that led to her surrender, the important focus now is on finding her a new and loving home for the rest of her years. Daisy is a bit ... (Read More)hesitant with new people, but she's very friendly and she warms up once she feels safe. She has attached quickly to her foster momma and follows her everywhere she goes around the house. If foster momma goes out, Daisy's little face is waiting in the window when she returns, and she greets her with a welcoming, happy round of barking. Daisy is microchipped, spayed, and she just had a dental cleaning with one extraction. She has good house manners and is mainly housebroken. She's had only a couple of 'whoopsie's' in her new foster home, but that may just be due to being in new surroundings and learning new routines. She's only been in foster for a handful of days, so we're still getting acquainted with her. She gets along well with the two other dogs in her foster home as well as being friendly with any dogs encountered while out on walks. Daisy will make some lucky person a very wonderful pet. She'd probably like best to be in a home with someone who either works from home, or isn't away long hours. She seems afraid of sudden movements, so she may not be suited for a home with young children. She also seems to enjoy the company of having other pets in the house. Rescue Me ID: 18-01-15-00035Ruby (male)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Ruby is a seven year old, spayed female long-haired dachshund. She loves to have her belly rubbed and is house and crate trained. Ruby is considered special needs as she is blind and has diabetes insipidus (requires insulin injections daily but no testing needed). Even though she does not see, Ruby manages to explore the house and yard with ease. She is great with other dogs and loves all people, including kids. Ruby's medication is very inexpensive, and managing her diabetes is merely a matter of twice daily injections and a low-calorie diet to help her continue to lose weight. She would love to have a family to call her own and a ... (Read More)canine companion to keep her company as well! Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rico is the most interesting combination! We think he is a German Shorthair Pointer/Dachshund mix. He is about 5 yrs old and is neutered and ready to go. He is timid around new people and needs to be given time to adjust. He probably would not do well around children. Please email us at SOSPetRescue@yahoo.com if you are interested in adopting this interesting looking fellow or one of our other available dogs!!

Dachshund Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Herbie is a 7 yr old male neutered Chihuahua Dachshund mix. He is a very sweet fellow that just wants a lap to sit on! He came to us with a bad flea allergy and hair loss but has responded to treatment and has hair growing back. He is shy when he meets people but is a real doll when he decides you are a good person. He should not be in a home with children. Please email us at SOSPetRescue@yahoo.com if you are interested in adopting this adorable fellow or one of our other available dogs!!

Dachshunds are good travel companions. The short legs of a Dachshund are well suited for digging and getting inside badger burrows. Dachshunds are often referred to as wiener dogs because of their shape. Queen Victoria was fond of Dachshunds.
