Rescue Me ID: 17-01-19-00002Penny (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Fearful/Anxious

Penny is looking for her perfect home! This sweet little 3 year old dog was abused by her first owners, and is still very fearful and shy. She is more comfortable with women, but does warm up to men if they are very patient with her. Penny does not do well with children...they move fast, make loud noises, and do unexpected things, which makes her very anxious. She has not bitten anyone, but has lunged at children, even those quietly sitting down giving her treats. She does not do well with strangers, and will growl and bare her teeth. Once she gets to know you, she is very loving and affectionate. She wags her tail and entire backside ... (Read More)so hard, it is difficult for her to walk! She is always happy to see her people! Penny has very low exercise needs. She is happy and content to sit next to someone she loves. She likes walks, but doesn't need them. Penny is fully housebroken, and uses a doggy door if available. She doesn't necessarily need a fenced yard. She is good to go out on the grass to potty, and then return to the door. She is not a wanderer. She will be stressed and have accidents if left alone in the house, but is fine if put in her kennel while her people are gone. (No accidents in her kennel). Her kennel is her 'happy place' if things get noisy or chaotic, and she likes sleeping there at night. Penny is a sweetheart, and just needs a calm environment with a limited number of people coming and going. She would love to be an only pet in a quiet, calm household with no children. She has so much love to give! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dachshund in Utah
Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Utah if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.

lnteresting Dachshund Trivia Low-Cost Utah Spay & Neuter Clinics
Dachshunds are good travel companions. The short legs of a Dachshund are well suited for digging and getting inside badger burrows. Dachshunds are often referred to as wiener dogs because of their shape. Queen Victoria was fond of Dachshunds.
