Hi! I'm Monica and I'm a 2-year-old Min Pin-Dachshund mix - how cute is that!! My foster mom thinks I lived on the streets my whole life, so I was VERY unsure about the world just a few short weeks ago, but now I absolutely love being with my people and playing with other dogs (I'm even good with cats!) I'm GREAT in my crate and I'm totally housebroken, plus I'm not destructive and I know which toys are mine. I'm still learning how to walk on a leash - I just need someone to assure me that everything is going to be ok. So if you're looking for a gentle soul to give you unconditional love and be your forever cuddle-buddy, then I'm definitely ... (Read More)your girl! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-04-07-00095Mickey (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Mickey was rescued a few years back from South Houston Animal Shelter. I fostered him and eventually found him a wonderful home with an elderly couple. They loved him but sadlynlost their home to Harvey. In the mean time, they moved in with their daughter who already had 4 animals (the limit in our city). With Mickey and his two siblings, they had more than the amount and the daughters neighbors complained. Animal control told them they had to give up 3 animals. They were just about to buy a new home when they found out the woman had stage 4 breast cancer and it does not look promising. So it looks like she will never be ... (Read More)living on her own again, so no chance that she will be able to take him back. She regretfully made the decision to ask me to help rehome him (and his siblings which have already been adopted). I am currently in possession of him but also can't keep him because I too am at the limit for animals. He is a really sweet boy who loves to cuddle. When I am working from home he is usually right next to me on the couch cuddling. He is smart andnin a matter of weeks has learned what 'crate time' means and automatically gets in his crate. He loves to give kisses, but will play with my dogs as well, but not super long or rowdy. At night he burrows under the covers. His negatives...... being elederly and disabled she did not work with him on housetraining him. But I have found belly bands work well for him. Any adoption fee will go to cover the cost of additional belly bands to send with his adopter. He does not wake from sleep abruptly and can sound grumpy if you accidentally rouse him under the covers in the middle of the night but does not bite. He just sounds grumpy. ;-). He learned the doggie door so I imagine with a little patience someone can teach housetraining. I work 10 hour days 1 hour from home so I am fine 12 hours a day 5 days a week. My husband doesn't have the patience to help me train him. Please consider adopting Mickey. Leave a message on my phone and Inwill get back with you. As I said, any one who adopts him will be required to pay an adoption fee to me which I will use to buy belly bands to send with him(already purchased). Any left over money from the fee will be donated. Vet records will be checked as I want to make sure that he is going into a good home and not being used for unscrupulous purposes. He is up to date on at least rabies and on monthly heartworm mess. But he is likely due for a new test and prescription. Please consider this loving older guy. You won't regret it. He will adore you and show you the true meaning of unconditional love. (Less)

A stray dog my husband and I took in just over 8 months ago. During that Time I started develping health problems and at a recent vet visit was told that my develping asthma was due to being allergic to dogs. He also speculated that having two dogs in home with me could be what was causing me to miscarry. I cannot keep them outside all the time as it would be unfair to them, Please help me find them a loving home that can give him the love he deserves.

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Vaccinations Current

I found Lola running down a busy road dodging cars with a collar and leash and no tags or chip. I had her checked and she is heartworm free and has no known diseases except some blood in her stool which might be from whipworm which she has been treated for or a small polyp in her rectum. She is beautiful, loving and minds very well. She is about two years old and weighs about 40 pounds. We are older and I am not able to walk her, we have no fenced yard, and we have a cat. She would love to play with the cat, but it would not be safe for the cat. She is very calm in the house, but she has plenty of energy and would love to be able to ... (Read More)run. We love her very much but have fostered her for about 3 months and are having a very hard time caring for her. We tried to find her owners to no avail. We want her to go to a loving family. Older children would be fine, but she gets excited around toddlers who run or scream, and she might get rough playing with them. The only dog she has reacted to aggressively is another female pit bull in our neighborhood. She seems to love the other dogs and wants to play. We are not sure if she has been spayed. We have limited funds and have done all the vaccinations and checkups, but not sure if we can afford to have the polyp removed or have her spayed. She is extremely sensitive and responds very well to commands, but she must have been abused since she is very sensitive if scolded in any way. She is well housebroken and stays inside most of the time, but we try to walk her every day and fasten her on a cable outside for a few hours when the weather is good. She gets cold if she is outdoors when it is chilly and prefers to be inside then. (Less)

Are you laughing at my big ears?!! I have something else that is big - my smile when you play with me. I Lub, Lub, Lub to play and I am fun at it. I come from a home with 4 young kids from ages 2 - 10 so I adore little kids and would love to have one or two to play with. I also play well will other dogs big ones and small ones my size. I am 11 pounds and I just turned 1 year old March 7. My Veterinarian says I am a ChiWeenie meaning I am mixed with Chihuahua and Dachshund. I have reached my full weight and height so I'll be a small little girl forever. That only means I can cuddle with you more and I give the sweetest, softest kisses ... (Read More)you ever had. The biggest thing about me is that I have a huge heart and the biggest lover you will ever meet. I am looking for a home that will walk me as I am very nosy and love to walk to see what I can see. I don't have a big dog personality but when you get the leash out I am ready to go for my walk and may pull a little bit at first but then I calm down and walk right beside you. Most times I don't even stop to sniff things; I just walk like a little lady. And I like going for car rides too so I can look out the window. Of course I am house-trained and crate trained and will go to the back door to let you know I need to potty. My kids parents say they are too busy to have me around anymore so I have to find a new home. I am praying I find a great home that will love me forever and make me a part of their family. Most of all I would love for you to rub my head and play with me and do not punish me for wanting to play with you. I obey and lay in my bed with a very hard chew bone and toys because I am a bit independent and will play by myself. Right now I am being punished for playing with the kids while they do their homework so I have been kicked out of the house and kept on a chain all day and all night. I get scared at night and some nights it has been cold so I cry and whine hoping they will let me in. My neighbor kept hearing me and convinced them to surrender me so someone could adopt me and give me hugs and love. Will you be that someone please? I am a very good girl, my neighbor and her dogs can vouch for me, I love going over there to play and getting treats. I am up to date on all of my vaccinations, rabies and on monthly preventative for heartworms, I tested Negative!!! All I need is LOVE %81S PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR MORE PICTURES: roxysk9rescue.org ADOPTION FEE & APPLICATION REQUIRED Roxy's K-9 Rescue does not have a shelter, all of our foster dogs are raised in private homes; . Rescue Me ID: 17-12-21-00216Taboo (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. Also, our puppies can only be adopted to the immediate Houston vicinity as it takes 4 months to get them completely vetted at our vet here in Houston. We will not allow our dogs/puppies to be adopted out of the area without being spayed/neutered. We spay/neuter puppies at 4 months old. Looking for an easy, small, loving, sweet dog who is fully house-trained? Look no further than Taboo. She's a little shy at first, but give her a few days and ... (Read More)she'll fit right in. Taboo is completely house trained. She quiets down quickly in her crate but would probably love nothing more than sleeping next you if you let her. She most ignores the two c ats in her foster home and gets along with the big dog there, although she would be perfectly happy being your one-and-only. She loves going for walks and patrolling the yard for those pesky squirrels. But most of all, she'll love snuggling next to you or sitting at your feet in her forever home. Taboo is a female Dachshund/ Chihuahua mix that we estimate to be born around 1/11/2016. PUPPIES: Young puppies that have not had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center for our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application on our website http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/k9_angels_rescue_adoption_process.html. If your application is approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month time frame it takes to get them fully vetted and altered. SPAY/NEUTER: As we believe proper healthcare of one's pet is a requirement of good ownership K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted. If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. Fosters are the backbone of animal rescue. In most EVERY shelter - in most EVERY county - in most EVERY city - animals are being euthanized (KILLED) daily due to overcrowding - dog - cat - large - small - male - female - puppy - kitten - old - young. We cannot save them without foster homes. APPROXIMATELY ONE OUT OF THREE ANIMALS THAT ENTER A SHELTER IS EUTHANIZED. These healthy sweet pets would have made great companions. Don't know what fostering is? Briefly - it is babysitting an animal until he/she is adopted. FOSTERING IS FREE TO DO! Most rescues cover all expenses for fosters, and anything they do not cover is tax-deductible. If you cannot foster - please ask your friends and family to. If you want more information - Google 'animal fostering.' I'm begging - it's only temporary but lives can't be saved unless people step up - PLEASE - shelters are overflowing - when you foster one animal - you save two lives - the one you foster and the one that gets his/her space in the shelter. If you can/will foster - let me know, I thank you - and the animals thank you! PS - Have you ever dreamed of helping a rescue but don't have the time, space, or just plain don't know what to do? At your pet limit? Allergic? Can't have pets where you live? Well - how about becoming a VIRTUAL FOSTER... You can choose a minimum amount of $10 a month to 'virtually' foster a homeless animal of your choice (of course, a larger sum would be happily accepted and appreciated). What does Virtual Foster mean? Our foster fur babies typically have many veterinary bills, as this is the nature of being rescued. There are also other expenses related to the ongoing care and rehab of fosters. As a Virtual Foster, your donation will go towards the vetting - medical care, and general care of the animal you have chosen. Your donation will go a LONG way in ensuring a foster dog receives the needed care and attention! In return for your kind tax-deductible donation, you will receive a periodic update on the progress of your foster. Once your foster is adopted, you will be notified so that you can choose another animal to virtually foster. If you genuinely cannot adopt or foster, there are still other ways to help. Sponsor an adoption or medical treatment. Volunteer your time - drive for transports, rescue groups always need dogs transported from one place to the next. Donate money, our rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all donations are tax deductible. Educate - spread the word about the need for fosters. Sign up for notifications from your local rescue group or shelter, and share the animals in need on social media, there are so many ways to help - thank you, please share this post (Less)

First posted on 7/8/15 for Sarah Dolan, and we took him in on 7/31/15 when she was moving after her husband passed away in November. Pictures updated 5/8/16. PoPo is a male, Sugar, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, is his mother. I'm not sure what breed his dad could have been. He is very friendly, and had Demodectic Mange that was treated with Nu Stock, and Ivomec. He had all his hair back in weeks. It can be kept under control with Ivomec once monthly, which is also used for heartworm prevention. He is crate trained now, submissive sweet personality, great with children and adults, ok on a leash, and plays well with the other dogs. ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Dachshund in Texas
Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children.     Dachshunds are good travel companions. Dachshunds are named for Dachs, the German term for Badger, which these dogs were bred to hunt. The short legs of a Dachshund are well suited for digging and getting inside badger burrows. Queen Victoria was fond of Dachshunds.
