Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Uno is number 1 in GDR's books! This handsome 5 year old boy is spending his time in a wonderful foster home in Maryland. Weighing in at 16 pounds he is a large miniature. Uno is crate trained and house trained but like all dachshunds he will need to be confident in his environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Uno is loves to spend time in the yard at his foster home. He would like to be hunter! He should not be in a home with kitties or other small animals like rabbits or guinea pigs. This sweet boy loves to sleep in the big bed and would love to ... (Read More)have a home where he could keep doing that. Uno does need to be watched so that he doesn't jump off and on furniture. He is learning the command 'wait' in his foster home. Uno is very sweet natured! He loves people of all ages and other dogs too. He is always happy and ready to give love! This is a very laid back boy who is happy to be where ever you are. Uno would do well in a home with children over the age of 8 who understand dachshunds needs. Because Uno has cervical IVDD he should never be leashed with a collar, and only use a harness for for gentle walks. At some point in his life Uno suffered from a broken leg that was not treated and this has left with him with slightly uneven gait. This happy boy would love a home and a lap to call his very own. Animal ID: 201605-28Tinkerbelle (female)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Introducing Tinkerbelle, or Tinker as she is most called by her foster mom and dad in South Carolina. Tinker is an absolutely gorgeous 7 year old, 20 pound, standard black and tan double dapple female. Tinker, as with most double dapples, is extremely affectionate. She just wants someone to love her and will lay next to you for hours if you're willing to pet her. Tinker was dropped off at a firehouse in PA by her original owners who claimed they found her walking alongside the road. She had been neglected and was suffering with a urinary tract infection and a rather serious case of bladder stones. Never the less, she was very ... (Read More)friendly and happy to be with her new friends at the fire house. Fortunately for Tinker, one of the fire fighters parents are very much involved in dachshund rescue and that's when the good folks at GDR stepped in. Now safe and happy Tinker lives in South Carolina with 9 other dachshunds. She has been completely vetted and brought up to date with her vaccinations, spayed, had the stones removed and the urinary tract infection treated. Tinker is ready to find that special forever home that will take care of her. Tinker's case is special because her new family must understand the special responsibility that comes with being a double dapple dachshund parent. They will have to be accommodating her medical issues. Tinker's right eye has no pupil or iris therefor she is completely blind on that side. Her left eye is only partially formed. She sees somewhat out of that eye but probably only 5 or 10 feet. She does not walk into obstacles and gets around very confidently. We also suspect that there is some hearing deficiency but again, this does not affect her mobility or demeanour. The vet has advised us that both eyes have higher than normal internal pressure and believes that treatment will be required in the future on both eyes, possibly even removal. Her bladder stones were most likely caused by poor diet and lack of veterinary care. There are special diets available for this condition but they generally are high sodium recipes. Her foster parents are feeding her a premium grain free kibble and moistening it with cranberry juice. Cranberry juice has shown to have beneficial properties for humans and dogs urinary tract health. Tinker should be checked consistently for development of bladder stones. Tinker is a very social girl and interacts with her foster brothers and sisters. She has shown absolutely no aggression towards her siblings or new people. She loves adults and children. Her foster parents think she would do well with cats but she has not been exposed to them. Tinker loves to sleep in the big bed and would love a home that lets her continue to do this. Tinker does well on a leash and she has not had accidents in the house. Like all dachshunds she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Due to Tinkers special needs she needs extra time and understanding. She is very confident despite her physical challenges and lets you know what she wants (food, petting, potty break) and when she wants it. Her coat is very thick and somewhere between a smooth and long hair. She has not needed grooming in her foster home and probably will not require it long term except for an occasional brushing. She has a spoon shaped cowlick on her neck which just makes her unique. A more loving and affectionate companion you'll not find. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-05-00401Amos (male)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Amos was adopted from us 2 years ago and just was returned. He's a gorgeous cream smooth coat miniature dachshund who is 8 years old and weighs 12 pounds. He is shy and was said to have separation anxiety and didn't like other dogs. Well we found out that he just likes other doxies and small dogs. Amos is a snuggler when he gets to know you. He is not aggressive but can be fearful. He needs a quiet home with another Doxie and no children. He wants a mom and/or dad to be home with him a lot and take him places with them. All he wants is stability and a loving home. Amos is crate trained and pee pad trained and if he is kept on a schedule he ... (Read More)can be house trained. He's healthy, neutered, up to date on his shots and gets a dental this Friday. Amos's adoption fee is a $200 donation.
