Animal ID: 201611-71Annabelle (female)

Dachshund    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hey there! My name is Annabelle. I am a spunky, older lady. I am about 12 years old and I weigh 14 pounds but I have plenty of energy and spunk left! I mean, heck, I was found and taken in by a vet's office because I was out playing in traffic even though my back legs didn't work! It's all good now though. They took me into the office and I hadn't been hit by a car or anything. Even without full leg function I was too spry for that! I just had a little bout of IVDD like a lot of my Dachshund friends. With some time and care I was back up and running in no time. You might still notice a little hitch in my step, but I get around just fine. I ... (Read More)do need to live somewhere I don't have to deal with stairs though. I should never jump on or off of furniture either. That would really help me a lot! It would be better if I wasn't in a home with small children either. Oh, I also don't have any teeth. Jealous? Doesn't slow my eating down any, I promise you that! My foster family wets my kibble to make it easier for me to eat. Man do I have them trained'| Teeth or no teeth one of my favorite things to do is chew on this deer antler at my foster family's house. Feels great! I don't mind if you humans take my antler (or my food) but I do NOT like my foster brothers and sisters to try it. IT'S MINE! I don't care if I have teeth or not my little rambunctious foster brother'| I shall challenge you to a duel! Of course, this means I do fine with other dogs, but I do have to be watched if there's food or treats or a dog bed I really like laying around. I will claim them and I'll let all the other dogs know! I do GRRRR sometimes at my foster kitty sibling but she walks off and ignores silly me. Yeah I can be a little dominant, especially with other dominant ladies, but I do like the boys, unless they're trying to take my food. Just sayin' that's off limits fellas. I would like home where there are boy doggies or a girl who isn't bossy like I am. I am getting better at letting my foster family know when I need to go outside. Like all dachshunds I need to be confident in my home to have good potty habits. All us rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so please be understanding and patient with me? I am great in my crate. I love my crate! Again, I have this family so wrapped around my finger. I have my own orthopaedic bed in my crate, with some blankets. It's no wonder I don't want anyone else to go in there! I do like sleeping in the big bed of course, but I do just fine in my own space as long as I know where my family is! I am quite happy that way. I love to just hang out on my dog bed under a blanket while you watch TV. Well, unless you're having pizza. If I smell pizza it's like I can't help myself. I'm going to ask you for some of it. I am going to bounce around, whine, scratch at your leg, and generally do what it takes to get some of the yummy stuff! Anyway, I'm happy to hang out with my foster family for a while. They're pretty cool, but I would love a place of my own. Interested in hooking an old lady up? I promise I'm entertaining! Love Annabelle Annabelle absolutely a sweetheart. She loves people and she's a little clown. She shows off when new people come over. Loves to roll on her back on the carpet while grunting at everyone. This wonderful girl is just waiting for a chance for a forever home in her foster home in North Carolina. Is she the one for you ? Rescue Me ID: 17-03-14-00304Raspas (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Date into Rescue: 02/25/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Stray from local shelter Foster location: With Jackie near Rocky Mt, NC Special Needs? Weight: 7 lb Adoption Fee: $269 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? One that is ready to keep up with a puppy! Raspas has his calm couch potato times, but he loves to run and play and do all those curious fun puppy things. He loves attention and bounces like a little ball to get your attention. Since he's a puppy, he has not been leash trained, is not crate trained, and is not house trained. But with that right home he will learn all these things and more and be an even more ... (Read More)wonderful little dog! What is my personality like? Raspas is a loving and happy puppy. He likes to lick, so we're trying to break him of that but for him it's showing affection. From the first night he has slept on his blanket on the floor by the foster's bed where he can see her. He loves to be loved on and is playing fetch just a little and working on sit. Raspas is delightful. No word describes him better except maybe funny. How I act when I first meet new people: He's a puppy. He loves everyone! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: est. birthday April 20 2016 PUPPY POLICY: ~~Thank you for considering adding a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. You need to be prepared for that work. Because our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious where we put puppies. Our ideal puppy adopters are: *experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets *be scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day *and for those gone 4 hours per day have another canine companion in the home *be stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc) If you fit this criteria, please apply for this puppy. If you do not fit this criteria, we strongly encourage you to look at our adoptable adult dogs. The number one misconception that we hear routinely from new dog owners is that they want a puppy because they do not think they can handle correcting past bad behaviors or resolving baggage. Not every adoptable rescue dog carries such baggage. Many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who have lost their families through no fault of their own. The second misconception we hear is that adult dogs can not bond with a new family. This again is not a true statement. Adult dogs are ready and eager to give you their love. In return, you get a family pet that is a known quantity, known size and shape and color and ready to start on the new adventure, their life with you. Lastly, training a puppy correctly is a tremendous commitment of time and energy. This is why we ask the puppy seeker have more time at home than the average working family. Puppies are gregarious and social creatures who crave attention and positive direction. You need the extra time to do it right.~~ Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Rescue Me ID: 16-10-19-00250Dannie HW+ (male)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Date into Rescue: 1/28/16 Reason for being in rescue: owner turn in to local shelter/can't take care of Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Dannie has only three legs and he is heartworm positive. Weight: 7 pounds Height: about 6' at the shoulder..long and low Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? no Dannie came to us from a local shelter, and upon arrival we noticed that his back right leg was broken. Unfortunately we didn't have a lot of information about him and we don't know how long his leg had been broken. We took Dannie to the vet and scheduled surgery to have his leg pinned. During the surgery the vet ... (Read More)realized that the bone had been broken for far too long and the bone was too brittle to repair. The vet took the next best course of action and had to amputate Dannie's leg. Dannie is currently in foster care while he heals and recovers from his surgery. Despite his injuries, Dannie has no trouble walking and getting around. He has proven to be quite resourceful, and he uses the wall and his upper body strength to wedge himself up onto the couch. His leg isn't the only part of Dannie's health that was neglected. Dannie also has heartworms. Since he is very tiny, we've chosen the slow kill method of treatment. Dannie will be adopted with with one year's of Triheart heartworm prevention at his adoption. Dannie bonds with one person and prefers females over males. He loves spending time with his person and wants to be around them. Dannie is very affectionate. He likes to climb up in your lap and give kisses. Dannie likes to go exploring outside and we are working on his potty training. Dannie is sweet to everyone he meets and is looking for a low key quiet home. Dannie would prefer an adult only home and he would love for his person to be home for most of the day. He would be a great companion for someone that is retired and looking for a cuddle buddy. He gets along well with other dogs, but larger dogs scare him. Dannie would make a great companion to another small dog in the house or he would love to be the only pampered pet! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: reportedly 6 years old, so est birthdate 1/23/2010 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.     Uno is number 1 in GDR's books! This handsome 5 year old boy is spending his time in a wonderful foster home in Maryland. Weighing in at 16 pounds he is a large miniature. Uno is crate trained and house trained but like all dachshunds he will need to be confident in his environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Uno is loves to spend time in the yard at his foster home. He would like to be hunter! Uno is very sweet natured! He loves people of all ages and other dogs too. He is always happy and ready to give love! This is a very laid back boy who is happy to be where ever you are. Uno would do well in a home with children over the age of 8 who understand dachshunds needs. Because Uno has cervical IVDD he should never be leashed with a collar, and only use a harness for for gentle walks. At some point in his life Uno suffered from a broken leg that was not treated and this has left with him with slightly uneven gait. This happy boy would love a home and a lap to call his very own.
