Rescue Me ID: 17-11-20-00022Cordelia (female)
This little lady is Southern Belle Cordelia, 8 years, 10 pounds of sweet, fun doxie personality. Cordelia is gentle, affectionate and funny. She has a way of talking to her humans, as well as to other dogs. She's a character! Cordelia didn't always feel so well. She came into rescue with dental issues and an almost golf ball size bladder stone, which caused her a lot of pain. All that behind her, Cord is feeling great now. She eats a high quality kibble made for bladder health. Cordelia loves to give kisses, cuddle and burrough in blankets. She's such a pleasure to be around, will bring a lot of joy to her forever family. Please reach out and/or submit an application to adopt at http://www.almosthomerescue.org/onlineforms/adoptform.htm. Cordelia's adoption fee is $250 to help rescue. (Less)

Stevie is NOT your typical adoption. With my wife and I he is loving and affectionate. A great dog. He plays and gets along very well with our pomeranian mix. It took a long time to get him there. We believe he was abused before we adopted him 4 years ago. He is fearful and defensive of other people and is a definite bite risk. He can never be trusted with visitors. He is very fearful of other dogs and has a fear of leashes. He has never seen a cat. Anyone who adopts Stevie should NOT expect him to warm up to them any time soon. It will take weeks, possibly months before he will become the affectionate loving dog we know. He gets excited about me putting on his leash for a walk, but he will probably want to bite you until he adjusts. Stevie needs someone VERY patient and understanding. He needs a quiet house, with very few visitors (especially kids), and a fenced in yard. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-11-12-00083Duncan (male)
Duncan is a loving, high-energy 20 week-old mini dachshund puppy. He is extremely smart, eager to please and a quick learner. His ideal day would involve sitting in your lap and accompanying you everywhere. Duncan currently lives in a chaotic household with two adults, two children and a tom cat. (We adopted him end of Sept.) He is very gentle with the 11 month-old, but has yet to learn not to chase and nip at the 4 year-old (no fault of his own). He and the cat will fight it out at times during the day (primarily over space, which we don't have much of), but will sleep in the same bed at night (go figure). Duncan has not had a consistent introduction to discipline. He is not crate trained because I am unable to let him bark/cry during the training period (interrupts children's sleep and strife with neighbor), and consequently he is still not potty trained. We also realize that the adults have different approaches to dog training (positive reinforcement vs discipline), so we are confusing Duncan. In the last month or so, Duncan has found his voice and assumed his position as pack leader. He is very protective of his family when we are out on walks, barking and carrying on with every person we pass. He deserves an owner who has time to devote to loving him and training him with consistency. If you'd like to be considered, please respond thoughtfully to the following questions. (Copy and paste all 10 points into a Word doc and type your answer after each point): 1) How many people in your household? Please provide ages. 2) What steps will you take to establish your pack leadership? Please provide a complete, detailed response. 3) How will you handle crate training? a. Describe the immediate environment. Will you use an ex-pen or not? b. How will you respond to his incessant barking /crying to be let out? c. How will you encourage him to use his crate? i. during the daytime ii. during the nighttime d. How long do you anticipate crate training to take? e. What other considerations will you take in crate training him? 4) How will you handle his current inability to be left home alone? How will you train him to be left home alone? 5) How will you deal with any separation anxiety issues? 6) What will your potty training process look like? a. Will you train him to go outside or indoors? b. How will you train him to go where you want him to? c. What will you do when he potties in the wrong place so he learns what you want/don't want him to do? d. How long do you expect this process to take? e. What other considerations will you take in potty training him? 7) How will you handle his barking and lunging at strangers? a. on walks b. indoors 8) How will you teach him to walk on a leash? 9) At what age do you think he should be neutered? 10) Please provide vet information for reference. First-time dog owners will not be considered. We want Duncan to land in the best situation possible for him. Your answers to the 10 points above will be used as part of the screening process. Please email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Adoption fee of $500 will include crates, dog beds, toys, treats, food, etc. Pedigree and vet records will be provided. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-11-00016Sparky and Babette (female)
This adorable pair is made up of Babette, 3 years 12 pound doxie/min pin and her good friend Sparky, 1 year, 5 pound chi/rat terrier. They are both very sweet, a touch shy at first. They are affectionate cuddlers who want to be close to their people. Because of Sparky size, a home with small children is not best. Babette gets along with everyone, is a bit shy at first meeting. She's quiet, gentle. Sparky wants to be in your lap. He's ok with most dogs but can be jealous of your time, may clash with another alpha male. He loves Babette and she him. If you have room in your heart and home for two, this duo will bring lots of smiles to your days! Please reach out and/or submit an application to adopt at http://www.almosthomerescue.org/onlineforms/adoptform.htm. The adoption fee for both is $450. , , (Less)
Rescue Me ID: 17-01-27-00366Zeek The Fox (male)
Meet our fun loving little dude Zeek, aka Zeek the fox (just check out that luscious, bushy tail!!) Zeek is approx 3 yrs old and was happily adopted. Sadly his family did not take well to him sometimes ankle biting of the teenagers who would sometimes visit the home. Zeek definitely has some stranger danger issues, but mostly just barks at new people. We think his perhaps inappropriate displays of playfulness may have been misconstrued. In any case Zeek would benefit from a family that could take some time and teach him that unknown people are not all that scary. His family reported he was good with them. Zeek is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and ready for a committed family would believes, like we do, that he is worth a little effort. At around 20 lbs he is the perfect size for most homes. Come meet this fun little guy today! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dachshund in Pennsylvania
Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.
