Currently in foster as he was with some children that really had no manners when treating a puppy. He loves children- but doesn't want to be tossed about like a ball or tugged on like a rope. Rides well in the car, is great on a leash, loves quiet evenings at home, or weekends touring the wineries. She is a perfect companion and don't let the short legs fool you, she can hike 4 miles without breaking stride and proves it 4 days a week, you just have to lift her in and out of the car. Due to her short legs and ... (Read More)long back, we will not be adopting Sadie to homes with stairs. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-28-00413Noelle (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Noelle is an adorable young dachshund mix. She had a tough start in life, as a stray in California, where she became pregnant during what the vet thinks was probably her first heat. She is probably between 1 and 2 years old now. She was picked up by a high kill shelter, but was thankfully was rescued and brought to Portland. This was extremely lucky, because during her delivery, one of the puppies got stuck in the birth canal, so Noelle had to have an emergency C-section, which the shelter would not have paid for. But you'd never know she'd been through so much, she is an extremely happy, playful girl, who loves to make friends with ... (Read More)everyone. She definitely still has plenty of puppy qualities; she will play with her toys for hours, and then suddenly fall fast asleep. She loves snuggles and attention, and will happily give you kisses. She gets along great with other dogs she is introduced to, and has become best buddies with my dog. They love to wrestle and chase each other in the park, then snuggle on the couch once they've worn each other out. She has also tried very enthusiastically to be friends with my two cats, although the cats aren't so sure how they feel about this! We've met plenty of people out on walks, and she is happy to meet everyone, and is very gentle with children. I've noticed that she has started to get protective over me during walks when she sees other dogs, but once she's at the dog park playing, she's fine. I think she would do best in a home with t least one other dog that she can be friends with, so I will only match her with families who already have at least one other dog. She is spayed and completely up to date on her vaccines. I crate trained her, so she is housebroken now, and is quickly learning basic commands like sit and come, and she will happily sit up on her hind legs to beg for treats (if you give her anything chewy, she's in heaven). She is an absolute sweetheart, and after what she's been through, deserves a loving forever home. All of her puppies have found homes, and now it's her turn. Could you be her new family? Please contact me at doggykittyfoster@gmail.com if you would like to meet her. I am in the Foster-Powell district in Portland. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dachshund in Oregon
Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Oregon if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.

lnteresting Dachshund Trivia Low-Cost Oregon Spay & Neuter Clinics
Dachshunds are good travel companions. Dachshunds are named for Dachs, the German term for Badger, which these dogs were bred to hunt. The short legs of a Dachshund are well suited for digging and getting inside badger burrows. Dachshunds are often referred to as wiener dogs because of their shape. Queen Victoria was fond of Dachshunds.
