Hi - my name is Peanut. I'm a cute 4 year old, 11 lb. brindle terrier mix. I am working hard at coming out of my shell and my foster mom knows I want to be that special companion for the right person. I have made a lot of progress - but, I will still need time and patience. I used to run from everything and everyone, but now when my foster mom lies down on the couch I like to climb in her lap and get gentle petting. I need a person that will allow me to warm up to them slowly and gain their trust. I love other dogs and probably would prefer to be with other dogs as companions. I also do very well with cats (my foster mom has three and I ... (Read More)don't chase them at all). I like to have a schedule and some predictability in my life. I have learned to go outside to do my business almost all the time, and to take yummy treats from her hand. I also walk on a leash as long as I have a harness instead of the leash on my collar. I would probably be better off in a home without small kids, but would be ok with those over 8 years old who know to move slow and be gentle with me. I like men and women (my foster dad likes it when I come to him for attention). I do still run from sudden noises and movements, but we are working on that. It might take me some time to adjust, but once I do I know I will be your best friend forever. PPR was called by a nearby county shelter that they had a dog that needed our help. Auntie MaryLou went down to spring me out of that place. We learned that I had been at the shelter for 4-5 months... which surely didn't help my situation. The shelter told us that I and two other dogs were dropped over a fence at the shelter - we think it was by a breeder. This is most likely the reason for my fear of humans - or it is due to neglect. The shelter and PPR has updated my shots and the paperwork states that I've already been spayed. I've been kept on heartworm and flea preventatives. I'm physically in wonderful shape. It's such a shame for me to be so afraid. But... I've made some major progress and PPR believes with the right person and home situation... I am ready to be adopted. PPR will be very selective on this adoption due to Peanut's needs. Due to her needs we will not adopt to a family with children. An applicant who has worked with puppymill dogs or has the experience with dogs needing socialization would be the best home for Peanut. If you might be the home for our Peanut girl, please go to the applications page on this website to complete an application and follow up with an email to make sure we got it... on odd occasions we have had a form go missing between the site and us. If you have any questions or would like to meet Peanut, please feel free to contact us. However, we would request that an application be completed first before a meeting so we have information on your home. Applications to adopt can be found at www.puppypalsrescue.com Questions can be directed to the foster home at polarbear@woh.rr.com (Less) PUPPY PALS RESCUE, INC. Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Ohio if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.
