Rescue Me ID: 14-07-03-00175Andy (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Andy is a Dachshund mix who I rescued from our local shelter to keep him from being put down. At the time he was heart worm positive and had been hit by a car. I have treated him for the heart worms so he is totally free of them now. He walks with a little limp because one of his back legs is a little shorter than the other, but it doesn't slow this little guy down at all. He runs and plays with the best of them. He can run fast too. He is the sweetest and most loving little fellow and he just wants and needs a loving and forever home. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.

Dachshunds are good travel companions. Dachshunds are named for Dachs, the German term for Badger, which these dogs were bred to hunt. The short legs of a Dachshund are well suited for digging and getting inside badger burrows. Dachshunds are often referred to as wiener dogs because of their shape. Queen Victoria was fond of Dachshunds.
