Gizmo is a year old and fairly bonded to Basil (Bay) the beagle I have also listed. I don't let them go lightly, but it is this or be homeless. She loves everyone and is a sweetheart.. She will be a year old Dec 25th. I would prefer for them to go to a great home together, but will rehome separately if that is the only choice. I don't have an adoption fee, but would ask you to donate to Rescueme.

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-04-00149Oscar (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Oscar is a 7 year old Dachshund mix. He is an awesome funny little dog! He is about 11#, he loves to play with other dogs and by himself. He loves his toys and his dog bed. He also very much likes to snuggle. He doesn't mind being carried around. He does have a very typical dachshund personality. He can be dominate and has some Napoleon syndrome and when he wants to control a situation he will nip. Because of his size he doesn't do any damage but because of this we dont think young children are a good idea for Oscar. He listens well and is good on leash. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is ... (Read More)also house and crate trained. He is fine with my 8 year old son i should add and i think he would be fine with a grandchildren situation where the kids are over periodically. I thik he just gets overwhelmed with multiple children and there ruckus. His adoption donation to the rescue is $200. If you are interested in applying to adopt Oscar please email or call 734-680-0852. If you would like to see more updates, pictures, and videos please 'LIKE' us on facebook. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-09-07-00127Daisy (female)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Daisy is a chocolate and tan short haired miniature dashchund. She is 7 1/2 years old (2/14/07) and was the runt of her litter. Daisy was born in Virginia where she lived behind a cage with children and dogs in the house. She was not well cared for or trained. We rescued her in October of 2009. Since that time, she has been trained to walk on a leash, go potty outside (although accidents still happen) and tolerate children and other dogs. She has food allergies but does not require prescription food. Just specific ingredients that are found in a variety of brands (I.e. Purina). She has lost a lot of weight since we got her (almost ... (Read More)4.5lbs) but her diet is monitored. She is borderline obese for her breed (10-11lbs). She is up to date on all vaccines and treatments. She is also spade. Currently, there are no health concerns that you would not expect with the breed and age (eventual teeth cleaning needed). Daisy takes some time to warm up to people. However once she trusts you, she will not leave your side. She can be very affectionate. She prefers to be around people all of the time and will follow us around the house. She does not do well when left alone. We have tried leaving her on one floor, one room, crate, baby gates, and play pens however she still demonstrates anxiety. With other dogs, she prefers to be the leader (alpha). She is protective of her owners and children. She has never attacked another dog or child but will give a warning nip if you make her nervous. She appears to be more nervous around men and children running at her. We believe Daisy would have the best quality of life in a home with adults and where she is the only dog (although she would do ok with one dog companion). She would also benefit from additional training for potty/house breaking and commands. Having someone home with her most of the day would also help. With our growing family and increase in work needs, we are unable to devote the time daisy requires. We are very sad and torn on giving her away but feel that it is the best option for her at this time. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-20-00401Bailey (male)

Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Personality: High Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Bailey. I am a VERY special case. I came from a home where a disabled man owned me. sadly he had to give me up. the rescue is not too sure what had happened to me in my lifetime, but I do not do well with most people. I do like 2 people that are part of the rescue. in fact I am glued to the one. I love her and I am a normal dog around her. I jump on her lap, play ball, and never ever tried to harm her. I need to find someone else though that would be willing to take the chance with me and understand its going to take a LOT of time for me to come around. I have so much potential. its obvious. I can be such a loving ... (Read More)little guy. but people just can not come in full force and think they are going to swoop me up and take off with me. I am a very different dog then most. I have been through a LOT. If you are willing to put a lot of time in me, you will be rewarded with a fabulous devoted dog. but again, I am not your average dog. I would need training trough a professional that deals with this sort of behavior. The rescue can give you trainers that can help. I am a challenge and not for just anyone to take on. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dachshund in Michigan
Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Michigan if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.

Dachshunds are good travel companions. The short legs of a Dachshund are well suited for digging and getting inside badger burrows. Queen Victoria was fond of Dachshunds.
