Animal ID: 20140832Chester (male)

Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chester is currently being fostered in SC. Adoption Fee: $275.00 + $35.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law). Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $125 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses. Dogs that are HW positive cannot be adopted in Massachusetts Chester has been in our family for approximately 3 weeks. In that time he has started to come out of his shell caused by spending his ... (Read More)life as a breeder tool. Chester just celebrated his fourth birthday this week and he is starting to be a puppy! We have started to lovingly call him the Little Imp. He has found out about treats, tug toys, low lying (he is a MINI) things that he can pull off of the coffee table are so cool!! He loves to snatch and run. He is still skittish of men, not too pleased when more than two or three people are around - but getting better every day. He is learning more every day. Like a child, he knows the word NO - Usually followed by 'Out' and he is a good sport about it all. He is a good eater, and not aggressive about food. He gets along well with two other male dachshunds and a female labrador. Chester will cuddle you all day long. He will be your bed buddy, and constant companion. All he asks is to stay out of a crate, please. That brings back such bad memories. RI RESIDENTS At this time we are not registered with this state and are unable to adopt to residents. The process to register is lengthy and will take some time. We are currently working on this process. TRANSPORTATION HELP! If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don't let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport. Rescue Me ID: 14-06-18-00182Louie (male)

Dachshund    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Louie is an eleven year old, miniature, long hair, dappled, black and tan dachshund. He likes to be a companion and plays a little with stuffed animals. The best home for him would be with an older person/couple, no kids, no steps, no other pets. I need to find him a new home because he no longer gets along with one of my two pits. When I first got him he was 8 years old. I had an older Bassett mix and they did not associate with each other but got along, both low energy and not into playing with other dogs. When the Bassett died, two pits in need of homes came into the house. They all got along. but little Louie had two stay out of the ... (Read More)way of the younger one, who was, and is, very energetic. Recently, the younger pit will not tolerate Louie, some of it is because of Louie's food aggression. He and Louie cannot be together. Louie is now kept in a bedroom and taken out separately. He likes to roam in his walks. A fenced yard would be best or someone that will take him out and be with him a lot. He will go to the bathroom in the house if not left out a lot. He does go on pee pads, but not always. I do not put a collar on him. He walks beside me in his strolls, which are not very long. He is chipped. He needs to be in a quiet house, with no, or limited, steps. As he is a miniature, he has issues getting up and down steps. He should not be around children. He is food aggressive. He has kidney disease and is on KD diet. He has a skin condition which is causing him to lose his hair. Was tested for thyroid disease and that was negative. It does not bother him. Heartworm negative. His eyesight is deteriorating. The doctor said he could have a cataract operation if it gets bad enough. Most of the time he sleeps in one of his two dog beds. He used to sleep on the bed before the other dogs came. He likes to take car rides and travels well. He is a sweet little dog who needs to be a part of a family. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-05-17-00403Lacy (female)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Name & Breed - Lacy / Dachshund Foster Mom - Rachel - Pocomoke, MD E-mail -ocunicorn@yahoo.com Age & Weight - 6 yrs / 10 lbs Coat - Long Hair Red Sable Adoption Fee - $250.00 House Trained - Bladder Control Issues due to back injury Lacy is a sweet girl who will have you wrapped around her little paw the minute you meet her. She has a nickname 'Whoo Whoo' because that's the sound she makes when she hops around to get your attention. She is a very quiet girl, who will bark occasionally when someone is in the yard. Lacy has the most adorable face that matches her personality. She is very sweet and gets along great with her foster brothers ... (Read More)and sisters. She does well meeting new friends and is very engaged in what you are doing. Lacy has had back surgery in the past, and has a stiff back-end gate now. She can traverse a few steps on her own, and does very well up and down the doggie door ramp. She cannot jump on furniture or stand on her back legs. Actually, that's good news, as it prevents more back injury, and she won't be snoozing on the couch all day! Lacy has been undergoing acupuncture treatments to help loosen up her back leg muscles and tighten up her bladder. She is doing very well with both, and would do well in the future to have periodic 'tune-ups' if needed. Lacy does have a small bladder control issue due to the back injury. Since she tends to be a bit submissive, she also may have a bit of a piddle when first meeting someone or when she gets over excited. If you are looking for a new friend to help you watch the latest movies and be your new snugglebug, Lacy is your girl! HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THROUGH DASHRescue.net AND AN ADOPTION PROCESS IS REQUIRED. REFERENCE CHECK, VET CHECK AND A HOME VISIT WILL BE CONDUCTED BEFORE BEING APPROVED. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. We will be more than happy to assist in coordinating these efforts for you. If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $25 fee for the Health Certificate (this is a USDA requirement) required. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dachshund in Maryland
Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Maryland if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.
