A family that will give her plenty of fun and exercise, but lots of snuggles and cuddles too. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-31-00147HAYDEN (male)

Dachshund    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

HAYDEN was an owner surrender due to his mums severe decline in health. We know little information about him as nothing was provided and his former vet just sent a screen show of a visit, which didn't provide much information. He is NOT neutered, we had him tested for Heartworm and tick disease and he tested negative for all. He was given a rabies and core vaccine booster and de-wormed. He weighs around 25 pounds and he is BLIND in both eyes. HAYDEN gets around just great and when he hears my voice, he comes to my direction and wags his tail, he does still play with the other dachshunds and is an all round happy boy. He can smell water, ... (Read More)food and treats and is not dependent on anyone to get to it. He is very bonded with his best-buddy JASPER and they are often rolling around playing together. HAYDEN is not house trained, I was told that he goes on newspaper, I have pee pads down and sometimes he uses them, other times he doesn't. I think in a home where he can be taken out and having a regular schedule would stop most of the problems or a belly-band could be used which would stop the problem instantly. I am sure with him being blind and so many dogs around doesn't help. HAYDEN had a veterinary exam as we had very little medical history provided and he had a big lump under his front leg that was a concern. The lump was tested and it was deemed nothing to worry about. He was checked for diabetes, as a possible cause of his blindness, but he tested negative. Pressure testing was done on his eyes and they were a little off, but nothing to require any treatment, but monitoring would be recommended. Other than being blind, HAYDEN is in great shape, he is active, happy and just waiting for a family with a huge heart and the time to spend with him to make his life complete. I had wanted to keep HAYDEN with JASPER and RILEY whom he has been with all of his life, but with 2 months of no interest, I have to accept that keeping them together is not going to happen. I cannot keep them here at the rescue. Although he is a social boy and loves being with the other dogs, with the rescue having fluctuating numbers it is not an idea place for him when we have a lot of dogs. I also don't have the time to spend with him and he is not getting any time spent with him and as a senior he deserves a calm, relaxed, stress-free, loving environment where he can enjoy his senior years. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! HADEN is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $300. If you are interested in adopting these precious souls, please complete and submit the adoption contract on our website. We ask for two personal references and a veterinary reference. It generally takes 2-3 days to process applications, as long as we are able to speak to your vet and references. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org HADEN is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend.
