Rescue Me ID: 16-05-24-00304Tyson (male)
Tyson appears to be a dachshund mix. He can be feisty when he's scared (I rescued him) and he likes to run. He's a good natured little guy who's owner dumped him.

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-14-00112Mickey (male)
Meet Mickey. He is one of Sage's puppies. Sage is about 12 to 15 lb terrier and we DNA shows dad had some Great Pyrenees in him. His front legs look like some Bassett was in the mix too. He is about 30 lb and was returned to us due to no time and now a new baby. He did great with other dogs. He greeted all of the Rescue Team and Volunteers very well. If a stranger approached quickly he is a cautious but some socializing will fix that. He is just over a year old and really deserves a Forever Home. Older kids would be best for him that would respect his boundaries until some more confidence is built up in him. He is in our St John location but not on adoption floor due to space. To meet him visit the St John adoption center or fill out the online application found at www.alsiptotherescue.org. Alsip To The Rescue (ATTR) strives as a rescue to make sure that when our adopters take home their new rescue they feel they have the support and access to all resources which ATTR can provide. If you want to learn how you can set your new rescue up to succeed and blend in with your family come to our Meet The Trainer sessions each weekend. We will give you tips on what to do when you first bring home a new rescue. Fill out an application in the Get Involved section to meet our rescues. www.alsiptotherescue.org! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-28-00670Reid (male)
Meet Reid. Oh my is this a cute little guy. He is a 1-year-old dachshund mix. His original owners were told he was part poodle. We kind of think he looks like a yorkie mix. Perhaps he is 1/2 doxie, 1/2 poodle/yorkie. The end result is that he is super cute and has hair that grows long and needs regular grooming. He is sporting the sleek look with blond tufts on top for his current look. Reid is always a little bashful when meeting new people and new things. He kind of just hangs out in the background doing his own thing until he is ready to say hi. Once he has gotten past his initial shyness, he's a regular guy wanting regular attention and the opportunity for zoomies. Reid is great with other dogs. He's very playful and silly. He has also lived with an infant, kind of growing up together. He's wonderful with kids who give him that space he needs initially. He's never ever bitey; he just wants to take things slow. Reid is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is solidly housebroken and crate trained too. If you would like to give Reid a forever home please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. This is the first step of the adoption process and required prior to a meet and greet. Reid's adoption fee is $175. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-03-12-00250Reggie (male)
Reggie is a longer than typical Dachshund and has some arthritis in his back due to his length. He is in a foster home to monitor and work with some medications to keep him comfortable. He is doing remarkably well and is getting to a point that he will be less restricted. He would do best in a home that people are home more as he doesn't like it when his humans are gone at school or work all day. He walks fine and is a happy boy. He likes new people and other dogs. He is easy to get to know and a happy boy overall. ATTR will work with whomever adopts him and will provide the tools and resources needed for a smooth transition into a forever home. Saturday at Noon in St John and Sunday at Noon in Frankfort are free Meet The Trainer sessions with more free sessions to be added during the week soon. |Rescue Me ID: 16-03-09-00337Chipper (male)|
Chipper. 2 year old wire haired dachshund/terrier mix. 12 lbs. Neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped. Adoption fee $200.00 We just rescued Chipper and are still learning about him. What we do know is when he finds his 'person' he really attaches to them. He's pretty high energy and is a bit leery of strangers. We believe he would do best in a home without children. As we learn more about him, we will update his bio.

Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.
