Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Winston is a purebred long haired dachshund. He was 2 yrs old in March. He is up to date on shots. We are moving to the country and unfortunately Winston is bad about getting out of the house. We have 3 small children and Winston seems to escape out the door whenever my kids go in or out. I'm afraid with moving to the country he would get out and get lost or worse. He is good with older children but not the best with small kids. He is really good with my 9 yr old son but steals food out of my 1 yr olds hand and growls at him. He loves attention!

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-15-00269Nelly (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

NELLY!! One of the sweetest, friendliest little guys you will meet! Getting lots of love and attention from his foster family, he knows he is safe now, after being abandoned in Alabama. We are guessing him to be a doxie/terrier mix, mix of cute. Even at 1 year old, he is a fun, playful, silly puppy! If you are looking for a personality to keep you entertained and bring joy to your family, then Nelly would love to cuddle and give you kisses Here is what his foster family has to say about him: It's like Nelly has always been here! Since day one, he has made himself comfortable. Nelly is completely crate trained and has had only a few ... (Read More)accidents in the house. He will need a family to finish his training'|but he is VERY close! Since he was underfed, he is a bit protective of his food, which is normal for a dog that had no food supply. He is working on that and is learning that he is safe and will be well taken care of. He gets along great with our small dog. When he hears another dog in the neighborhood...he likes to go see what is going on. He gets along with children and loves the attention he gets from them. It might be best for him to be in a home with older children (10+) that know when to stop playing when he gets wound up with his toys. He is learning his limits and when to rough house. He is very curious, and likes to explore so it would be good if his forever family has a fence. He is so funny when we walk....he tries catching snowflakes in his mouth, and barks and chases the geese flying above. He is a great little dog who loves to be pet, loved, and will cuddle with anyone! Standard adoption fee is $295 and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email Kathy for an application at safehavendogs@yahoo.com. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family. (Less)

Animal ID: 15-01-05-00475Jordan (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jordan is a long, short and squat, six-year-old, black and tan, glossy, male Dachshund/Miniature Pinscher-mix looking for a loving guardian. Jordan landed at Chicago Animal Care and Control when his family could no longer care for him. He was taken in by Famous Fido's Rescue. All four of Jordan's short squat legs are a little bowed, but he gets around just fine '| In fact, he loves to go for walks. Jordan is great with other dogs. Jordan is a loyal and loving fellow who is crate-trained and does well with housebreaking once he's on a schedule. He'll come over and sit in your lap '| or if you're out walking him in the cold, he allows ... (Read More)you to pick him up and carry him inside. But, things tend to be on Jordan's terms. He dislikes it when you reach into his crate ' but he's fabulous if he comes out on his own. So, Jordan is looking for a patient dog-lover who will wait for him to mellow out in their home. Rescue Me ID: 14-10-12-00147ACE (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Vaccinations Current

Hi my name is Ace and I am about 5-6 years old. I have a heart of gold that is full of love waiting to share with my furever home/family. I would do better in a quieter home because I am a very shy and quiet boy. I am up-to-date on all those shot things and also that word that us boys don't like to say but I am sure you know what I mean. I would really love to find a furever home where I can share all the love I have in my heart. If you think I am the perfect little guy for you please contact my rescue to start the adoption process.
