Rescue Me ID: 17-09-20-00342Buster (male)
Buster is a fun, goofy, joyous, energetic and playful, four-month-old, male Chihuahua/Dachshund-mix puppy looking for a loving guardian. Little Buster has been raised in a loving foster home with multiple dogs and is doing fabulously well with people and other dogs. His foster mom has been crate-training him and taking him outside often so he is getting to learn about housebreaking. He loves people, dogs, toys, and life itself! He's been so lovingly raised he has no fears in the world. He's looking for a family that will train him using only the most positive of training methods so he stays a happy pup for life. Buster will be neutered and micro-chipped upon adoption. He is very healthy, de-wormed and up-to-date on vaccinations. To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for an adoption application. His adoption fee of $375 benefits rescued pets. He is being fostered in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-07-00124Joy (female)
Joy is a 7 1/2 year old girl that is an absolute sweetheart. She loves everyone she meets and makes a great companion dog as she is a cuddler. This girl may be classified as a senior but she still has a lot of spunk left in her! She is great with other dogs and doesn't mind living with a cat. She is very obedient and smart. She knows several commands and does great on a leash. If you are interested in adopting Joy please apply at digsk9.org and please be no more then 75 miles from Joliet IL where Joy is being fostered.

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-20-00430Rocky (male)
Rocky appx 5 years old. We adopted him from a high kill shelter. He is very low maintenance, potty trained, wants to be near you and sit on your lap. He's a sweet dog who would do well with anyone but someone with older kids or no kids would be better. We have two small kids who can be rough and he is a small dog. Rocky needs lap time and love and attention. Hoping to find him his forever home!

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-13-00321Dudley (male)
Dudley is a 12 year old rescue dog that we adopted when he was 5. I don't know much about his previous life but he seemed well-adjusted so I believe it was a safe environment. He's been with us for the last seven years. He's a very laid back dog that mostly naps all day and enjoys the occasional, be it short, walk. He barks when people come to the house, ring the doorbell or walk by with another dog but otherwise he's a quiet dog that likes laps and cuddling under blankets. He's a very loving and sweet dog that prefers the company of adults and surprisingly cats. When it comes to dachshunds I'm not sure you can get much cuter than this guy. We are looking for a new home for Dudley because I have acquired an allergy to him over the last few years and cannot touch or pet him without immediately having to wash my hands. He's also not great with kids. He will nip at them and take any food from them if they are walking around holding something. It's challenging for us to have people over with children for this reason. Our son knows to sit at the table and eat or risk being nipped at if he's holding food. We also just no longer have the time required to keep him happy. We have a three year old and a baby on the way and truthfully he does not get the attention he needs and craves. Dudley needs to be let out on a very regular basis. Immediately in the morning before he eats and then again right after. When we do that, we find that he won't go in the house. We cannot leave him for extended periods, however as he needs to go out quite frequently or he will go in the house. He has peed in his bed since we adopted him. We've had him checked out by our vet and while they feel that is unusual, they don't believe he has any physiological reason for doing so, just may be something he started when he was young. We keep his bed on a pee pad and wash his bed often. All of that said, we are looking for someone that wants to love on this dog. That has time for him all day and can give him the attention he craves. I believe his issue with going in the house is mostly behavioral because he isn't getting the attention he used to when I was able to spend more time with him and also pet him and have him in my lap. I really can no longer do this because of my allergy and we just don't have the down time we used to since having children. He needs someone that wants to take the time to walk him and make sure he does his jobs before he comes back inside. (Less)

Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.
