Rescue Me ID: 14-07-23-00436Zoe (female)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Zoe is a miniature daschund who weighs about 12 lbs. and has been with extended family or our family since she was born. She is a very loyal sweet dog and is house trained. Knows commands Sit, Lay Down, Wait, Settle and Go To Bed (her kennel). She loves to go for walks with a leash. She loves to chew on squeaky toys. She loves to sit on laps and be petted by people she trusts. She does not like to be touched by guests. She will adjust to them, it's just the first few times they touch her Zoe is so afraid she barks fiercely when they reach for her or when they do touch her, she yelps like they hurt her. She has had another daschund in the ... (Read More)home before and she was submissive to the other dog. When we are not home she can spend quite a bit of time barking/howling and with my 84 year old mother living here, that is just not working out. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-09-00168Gallant (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gallant is a neutered male, about 2 1/2 years old, who appears to be a mix of Dachshund and Vizsla. Unusual as the combination may be, our little buddy is a handsome, well-proportioned fellow with a compact & sturdy frame and sporting a blue and a brown eye (very striking). Gallant is light on his feet and really enjoys a good game of fetch, charging after a toss and lopping back with the catch. Gallant likes the lead but will match pace with you when reminded of his manners. Naturally inquisitive, he is interested in everything around him including the other dogs. Since he just arrived, little is known of his behavior around other dogs, ... (Read More)cats and children. Gallant has good energy but is in the medium level range, this and his smaller size might make him a good fit around a younger crowd if properly introduced. He knows to sit and come, displaying good recall. If you would like an introduction and a chance to spend some time with Gallant, please contact or stop by the rescue during regular hours. If you want to apply for Gallant, go to http://www.meridianvalleyhumanesociety.com/pre-adopt-questionnaire.rtf to fill out an application. After completing the application, e-mail it to meridianvalleyhumanesociety@gmail.com. All applications will be considered and the adoption coordinator will contact the person chosen to adopt him. Rescue Me ID: 14-05-27-00471Lacie (female)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Needs Vaccinations, Abused/Neglected, Fearful/Anxious

We adopted Lacy about 10 months ago, as a companion for our doxie. The people we got her from did not disclose her mental issues. She was extremely obese but we got her on wt. reduction and she is close to proper wt. now. She is anxious, fearful, startles easily and is very affection needy. My husband and I are in retirement and are active, but having Lacie requires us to spend much time just reassuring, petting holding, etc. In all the time we've had her, 10 months, she has not improved. We have been gentle, we spend as much time with her as we can, we have a quiet tho busy household. She also is food-gobbler. I think she was ... (Read More)underfed as she eats her food so fast she nearly chokes. She has a very sweet disposition, but requires an older person or couple, a quiet home, people who could let Lacie sit on their lap, and make her the center of attention affection and acceptance as we have. We just are busier than to be able to do that as much as she seems to need. She is house trained, kennel trained. She needs a home where she would be given a lap or soft chair to lay on and a person to pet and tell her she is good. She's such a nice dog, but she is too anxsious to fit into our household and our other doxie even startles her. We would love to find her a loving older new owner who would be able to give her the attention and reassurance she needs. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-05-23-00454Mj (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

MJ has been in the family for many years. He is the son of our old dog who had to be euthanized. He is a very loving sweet guy who has been babied and pampered his whole life. He belonged to my stepdad up until the day he passed away. He was a very good therapy dog and is very good with one on one or would be good with a older couple. He is like a child and needs a lot of attention of which I just don't have enough time for him. He has two disks in his back that are bad, but since we have had him and he lost weight he doesn't seem to be hurting. He loves car rides, walks and sharing your food if you let him. Like all small dogs he has an ... (Read More)issue with the cold and going outside. Although of the last year since we have had him for my mom he has been doing fairly well with the outside. He is also now kennel trained although he doesn't like it. He loves to be right with you and loves to sleep right next to people. I think he should have the best home possible and unfortunately I am at the point I can not provide that for him. He would be best with a male, couple, or some one disable he could constantly love on. He is nine years old and has a lot of life left in him. (Less)
