Rescue Me ID: 15-07-29-00370Blake (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When Blake's rescuer (Blake was saved from a very high-kill rural Oklahoma shelter) walked this very beautiful and oh- so- gentle guy down the trail, she was stopped over and over by other walkers inquiring, What kind of dog is that? and... Oh my, he has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen! It's true...Blake is a stunning mix of a Dachshund and the adorable scruffiness of a Cairn Terrier... extremely eye-catching and so very sweet!. When he turns that SO gentle look in your direction, you can't help but be mesmerized by his wise and soulful look. It speaks of difficult times for such a young pup. Blake is only about 12 months old ... (Read More)and weighs approximately 14 lbs. But, fortunately, it's clear that he has left the pain behind...he couldn't be more gentle and confident. Blake approaches life with a wisdom that seems to always light his way. Farfel's Rescue is searching for either retirees or a family with children 12 plus for Blake. It's not that he doesn't like young kids...we just feel he'll be happier in a calmer environment. An active retired couple or individual would make Blake very happy. He would thrive on the time and attention...and at the end of the day, would like nothing better than to cuddle up and be the most loving lap dog ever. Blake is also so loyal and kind that it makes him very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado. He's a perfect size to enjoy hiking beautiful trails and paths in the sunshine. He's also small enough to be very portable for car trips and errands around the city...truly a full-time companion! Blake would also enjoy time with other dogs who have the potential to be gentle playmates. When you're only 12 or so lbs, even a very well-adjusted pup can be intimidated by very rambunctious dogs. Blake has the most gorgeous scruffy-type, non-shedding coat. He'll require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his hair healthy and matt-free. Once groomed and given this high-quality nutrition, Blake will grow a healthy, shining coat that speaks of the texture of the Dachshund and has the fawn and golden streaks of a scruffy Terrier. Blake will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday morning 8/1/15. If you're interested in this sweet, endearing and often entertaining pup, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or mail a hard copy to Farfel's Farm 906 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302. Rescue Me ID: 15-07-29-00277Penny (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Penny is an incredibly cute ball of cottony-softness that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag and a kiss. She's such a beautiful girl with dark, very expressive eyes that melt your heart upon first glance. Once Penny gets a sudsy bath and grooming...she'll absolutely be one of the cutest girls around. At about 12 - 24 months old and 11 lbs, Penny is every bit the playful Doxy...fun and active and loves to play outside with like-sized dogs. At at the same time. she is a generally well-behaved dog who is not pushy or unnecessarily vocal - she expresses herself with her wagging tail and excited kisses. At this point in Penny's ... (Read More)development, she loves everyone..be it human or canine. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Penny to a family who expresses their devotion for her in many different ways. We'd also like Penny and her family to attend positive reinforcement group obedience group classes to be the very best adult dog she's capable of being. Right now, Penny is a blank slate who will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved girl around. We'd like Penny to find her forever place in either a family with gentle older children (12+ would be great) or with active retirees who will include her in their daily activities. Penny is so portable that she can easily be an almost constant companion - she would love nothing more than leisurely walks (and is learning to be quite good on a leash), trips to the store (she's a great window-shopping friend) or even a place at a pet-friendly workplace would be great for the socialization of this sweet and lovable pup. Penny is open and curious about the world and therefore can be introduced to virtually any situation...and if there is love and gentle guidance...she can succeed. Penny's new family needs to have the desire to love and take responsibility for a true-blue, long-term companion. This commitment will result in a very bonded and completely loyal best friend for life. Penny will choose to be close when you want to play, cuddle or just need a best friend to be there in challenging times. Penny is a non-shedding (or lighty shedding pup) whose coat needs bathing, brushing and general great care to rid it of its shelter dullness and return it to its original beauty. With periodic grooming and great nutrition, the golden and copper streaks will return to Penny's coat and light up her very beautiful and sensitive face. Penny will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday morning 8/1/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this sweet, very cuddly and engaging pup, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com, fax to 303-443-7730 or mail a hard copy to Farfel's Farm 906 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302. Rescue Me ID: 15-07-17-00342Gidget-PENDING! (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We got a very concerned email from Texas about sweet Gidget ...the shelter was set on finding a home for this unusually beautiful (with the most amazing eyes that speak of great wisdom and flying ears that couldn't be cuter) and very loving Long Haired Dachshund. We've been told that Gidget is a purebred Doxie but we're always hesitant to commit to that. Gidget has been recognized for her goodness and sweet personality (and her beauty with the striking golden markings always attract admirers everywhere she goes). But as stunning as Gidget is on the outside (although this sweet pup will be so happy after a sudsy bath and thorough brushing) ... (Read More)it just doesn't compare with the love and good-will that flows from the heart of this wonderful girl. Gidget aced her temperament testing (she passed with flying colors) and got a perfect on her vetting assessment. So...off she went to her foster home...to be reminded of respectful house skills and to wait for her transport to Boulder and a brand new life. Since Gidget has gotten an A for sweetness, cuddling and general positive behavior...she's ready to be a devoted family member. We envision her in a home either with older and very gentle children who can cuddle and love Gidget with a light touch or she'd be a natural in a home with retirees who will shower time and attention on this devoted and engaging pup. We would never want Gidget in a situation where she's alone for many hours. Instead we would love for her to be taken along on walks, adventures and visits with dog-loving friends. She's almost impossible not to fall in love with...her manner speaks of sweetness. Gidget also travels like a champ - she loves nothing more than coming along on errands, socializing visits and any adventure that keeps her together with those she loves. Gidget would also be a natural to come along on vacations or getaways (and is a perfect companion and lap dog at 18 - 24 months old and 13 lbs..so easy to scoop up and take along)...she's so pleasant with everyone that she attracts admirers everywhere she goes. But it will definitely be the special lap and familiar touch that will draw Gidget back to her family every time...she's a one-family girl! Gidget will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 7/24/15. If interested in this adorable and sweet...and often very entertaining companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-07-16-00537Niles (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

You know that we all have our favorites...maybe it's the pup that snuggles a bit closer (once he's bonded) and wags his entire body when he sees you simply because he can't contain how much he loves you. These descriptions would be Niles. His Oklahoma rescuers were set on saving this sweet boy's life. Niles got caught in an extremely overcrowded rural shelter system that doesn't have the time or personnel to deal with the little guy in the dark cage... wagging his tail so hopefully. Nile's great temperament (sweet and engaging once he gets over his initial shyness ) and his very beautiful and expressive eyes that were so pleading were his ... (Read More)ticket to a new life. Niles was vetted and brought to an Oklahoma foster home to get the attention that he always deserved and to work on his house skills. Niles was ready to for his trip to Colorado - a bit wiser and so excited about new possibilities We feel like Niles never got the love and attention that we would want for any dog...he can initially be a bit fearful when new things are asked of him in new situations. Yet Niles has so much love and good will just waiting inside to shower on those that are kind to him...he's a true gift! We know that with patience and kindness (he's made huge strides already and is well-adjusted and very engaging in his foster home) that Niles will understand that he is loved and a very important and valuable guy. Niles never hesitates to put his best self forward...that is an engaging personality (with a streak of independence..never needy) and enthusiasm for his favorite people or canine friends We can't forget that Niles at 8 months old and 11 lbs is still learning about the world. His behavior will not have the consistent maturity of a dog who's already learned the ropes. Niles is a puppy with a blank slate just waiting to be led. Being so young, Niles is open to new ideas with new ways of approaching challenges...he just needs a human who is clear and very kind with a young pup. Niles (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement group training classes so he can be given clear guidelines and fun socialization. It would also cement the relationship with his family so Niles will understand that he is loved and accepted. Niles would be a great take-along pup for retirees who desire the loving and cuddly presence of a furry guy. They would need to provide him with the exercise and mental stimulation that every well-adjusted young pup should have. They couldn't, however, let his incredible cuteness get to them - they would need to provide leadership so this young guy knows what they're asking of him - he will then be an exceptional partner and devoted companion. Niles is a lightly shedding pup and will therefore require great nutrition and periodic baths/brushing to keep any shedding at a minimum and to keep his cottony-soft coat healthy and shining. Niles is in a foster home in Denver. If interested in this beautiful and very sweet and kind companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Pinky is a 3lb, 13WO, chiweenie mix. Pinky and his 7 siblings were dumped in a box at a very high kill shelter in Texas. When they were brought to the shelter the vets thought they had very little chance of survival because they were so malnourished, and had very bad dermatitis. Some of them did not any fur at all. Our rescue partners in Texas picked them up and brought them straight to their emergency vet where they stayed for over a month getting the care they needed. All 8 puppies survived and are now strong and happy puppies. Once they were healthy enough, they were transported to CO to find their forever homes. They are now in ... (Read More)foster homes just waiting for their forever families. Even though these pups have been through so much, you would never be able to tell by their personalities. They are all so happy and just absolutely love attention and cuddles. Every time someone talks to me about them, they always say "they just bring such a smile to my face, but they are constantly smiling" If you ever thought puppies couldn't smile, these babies would change your mind in a second. Their floppy ears make them absolutely irresistible. They romp around the yard with their ears flapping chasing their toys. These puppies would be great for a family that has lots of time to spend with them and to help them grow and become to amazing dogs they have the potential to be. A family with gentle kids, other dogs, or a low key home would all be great for these puppies as they are all so adaptable and easy. They really just need to experience the love and kindness that they truly deserve. If you are interested in one of these pups, please email us at sunshinecanyondr@gmail.com for an application (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dachshund in Colorado
Dachshund Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Dachshund is a long, short-legged dog with a temperament similar to that of a terrier. Dachshunds are cheeky, playful, mischievous, and resistant to training or discipline. Dachshunds do well with older children. Dachshunds are well suited to apartment life but need exercise, and it is important that they not be overfed as this breed is prone to weight gain.

lnteresting Dachshund Trivia Low-Cost Colorado Spay & Neuter Clinics
Dachshunds are good travel companions. Dachshunds are named for Dachs, the German term for Badger, which these dogs were bred to hunt. The short legs of a Dachshund are well suited for digging and getting inside badger burrows. Dachshunds are often referred to as wiener dogs because of their shape.
