Rescue Me ID: 16-12-01-00274Mabel (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Mabel and I'm a 2 year old dachshund blend. I'm not really sure what I am blended with, but I'm super cute either way. I am spayed and up to date on all my shots and I am also potty trained. I am a super little pup looking for my furever home. I would love to have a home for the holidays and spend the season with my new family. I have never had a family to share the holidays with. I come from the streets of New Mexico, it's where I was born and where I have live my life. The streets did not make me mean, on the contrary, I am the sweetest little girl you will ever meet. I have seen families out walking their pups and wished so ... (Read More)hard that I had a family. At night when I was cold and hungry, I would look up at the stars and wish really hard for a family of my own. My wishes almost came true when I was rescued and brought to Colorado to my foster family. I love my foster family, but it's not the same as having my own family. I dearly want to find my home, hopefully with a fireplace. I love to sit by the fireplace and warm my paws. I also really love all my foster brothers and sisters. I am a pretty mellow little girl, I don't cause problems and I am very low maintenance. I promise I won't be much trouble at all. If you want a really loving and cuddly little girl, I'm the one for you. Thank you for considering me. . . kisses. . . (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-01-00155Lainee (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

***Please watch the video of Lainee and her brother Stratton in their foster home. They do not have to be adopted together. Here is the link for the video: https://youtu.be/ZjVYPn6PZ1Y Lainee is a little 8lbs, 1 year old, dachshund mix. Lainee and her brother Stratton were found on the streets of Texas, starving, hairless, and terrified. We got wind of these two going to an overcrowded shelter and decided they deserved so much more, we wanted to change their lives. Stratton and Lainee have now been in a foster home for about a month getting the TLC and medical care they needed. They are both here in CO now, ready to find their ... (Read More)forever homes. It's crazy what a little love can do for such a small and fragile animal. Lainee is no longer fragile and is a happy, healthy girl! Lainee is a little more timid than her brother, she takes a little longer to warm up, once she does, she is the BIGGEST love bug. The foster said she is pretty much potty trained (does well with a routine), gets along and plays with the other dogs in the house, and loves all people. The foster say she is so easy to love. She is food motivated and smart. The foster said she also loves to snuggle all the time, and will burrow under the blankets to sleep with you (dachshund behavior). If someone can give this sweet girl a little patience, they will be forever rewarded with unconditional love and joy. We see Lainee going to a home with an older couple or individual who can spend lots of time with Lainee snuggling and sitting by the fire (she loves sitting by the fire). She would also do great in a home with other dogs to show her the ropes and for her to eventually play with (when she is ready, because it takes some time). Lainee has a long life ahead of her and we want to make sure it's a good one. We hope that pretty soon she wont remember the life she was living before, and we feel confident a loving forever family can give her that. If you are interested in adopting Lainee, please email us for an application at brighterdaysdogrescue@gmail.com (Less)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

If you're searching for the most devoted and loving best friend ever....Sophie is the pup you want to have around! Sophie, at 4 - 5 years old and a perfect lap dog size of 8 lbs, is initially a bit hesitant...then the most bonded and loving girl around. Sophie enjoys her time with her rescuer mom so much that she joins her just about everywhere...a true best friend! Sophie loves her people more than anything..she's a little lap-dog extraordinaire and derives so much joy from her time spent with kind, dog-loving people. This adorable pup exudes love and loyalty...and it's catching! Sophie's tough early life doesn't seem to have left ... (Read More)scars on the personality of this devoted and sweet pup. Her bond to her people leads us to believe that Sophie would be happiest in the home of retirees or family with older, dog-crazy children. She would blossom with the time and attention that these types of families offer. Sophie is so portable at just 8 lbs that she is able to accompany her family just about anywhere...be it under the seat on a plane or riding shotgun in the car..Sophie is ready and willing. She is a welcome guest in every situation...when comfortable, her joy starts with her little wagging tail and works its way to the smile on her cuter-than-cute face. Watch out - before you know it, she's crept into your lap and snuggled up to spend time together. Sophie has an amazing attitude for a dog from a scary shelter... but it was her great temperament that saved this sweet girl's life. Sophie would be very happy in a home where she'll get consistent stimulation, walks, play time and tons of hugs. A beginning positive reinforcement obedience group class will create additional family bonding as well as promoting great behavior and confidence. Sophie, being a Poodle/Dachshund mix is a non-shedding...or very lightly shedding pup. She will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her beautiful Poodle-like coat silky-soft and matt-free. Sophie will arrive on transport in Boulder on Friday 12/2/16. If interested in this sweet and devoted best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)

Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This little cutie was rescued from a TX shelter. The vet estimates he's 7-8 y/o. He is a 17 pound boy, a little chubby. His hearing seems fine. He seems to see OK, but has cataracts. He is really sweet and loves laying next to you on the couch or in a dog bed. He is potty trained but will need a refresher course in a new home with a new routine and he'll need some company to go potty when it's raining; he does not like to go out in the rain. He lives to snuggle in the big bed. He does not like to be in a crate and barks in the crate, but is not destructive when left out alone. He was flea infested at intake and has a flea allergy, but is ... (Read More)healing nicely. He has had Nexguard for fleas and a Sentinel fit HW protection. He was HW negative at intake at the shelter. No medical issues except hair loss due to flea allergy, but his hair is growing back. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-23-00438Bart (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Bart. He is a 1 %BD year old male chiweenie. He is super sweet and super fun. He comes from New Mexico where he was turned into the local shelter because he did not fit with his family anymore. They loved him when he was a puppy, but as he grew, his previous owner said he did not look like the family dog they had thought they were getting. He was tossed aside because he did not have the right look. The shelter told his previous owner he would be euthanized if no one came in to adopt him and it was fine with the owner. It did not matter that little Bart has the greatest personality or that he loves to please his owners. It did not ... (Read More)matter that all he was asking for was a little attention and in return would give attention. It did not matter that this little guy is a puppy, a living breathing little guy who accepted his family for who they were, not what they looked like. We have had over 100 fosters come through recently and Bart is perhaps the most loving little guy we have ever had. He is starving for attention, his family gave him none. He needs a family that will love him unconditionally and give him all the attention he deserves. Bart would make a great addition to any home, he loves other dogs and loves kids. He is up to date on all his shots and neutered. He is also potty trained and weighs about 12 lbs. (Less)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gus is a great little 5 year old chiweenie who only weighs about 7 lbs and up to date on all his shots. He comes to Colorado from Texas where he was with his family. His daughter recently found her furever home, and he could not be a prouder papa. He is very happy that his daughter found a home before he did and now hopes it can be his turn. He gets along with all other dogs, big or small and he loves kids and cats. He is fully house trained and loves to spend time outside. His favorite thing in the whole world is the sun. He will lay in the sun inside or outside, it does not matter. Because he is 5 years old, Gus knows quite a bit. He knows ... (Read More)not to chew, he knows where to go to the bathroom, and he knows where to get belly rubs. Gus came from Texas where he was found wandering with his family. He and his family had a home where they felt safe, but one day he and his family were taken to the shelter. His former owner lost their home and could not afford Gus's family anymore. He was in the shelter with his family and had to protect them from the shelter world. Gus is getting older and would like to find a home where he can finally feel protected and loved. His daughter found a great home in Wyoming and his partner is here in Colorado looking for a home also. Gus would like to have a place where he can just rest. He likes to lay around and relax, he is very low maintenance and promises to be a great companion. Thank you for considering Gus as a new family member. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-22-00483Stratton (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Stratton is a 3yo, 16lb, Dachshund/Min pin mix. Stratton Was found wandering the streets of Houston, TX when he was found in pretty bad shape. His hair was incredibly thin and sparse in areas. (his hair is already coming back and will be fully and fluffy again soon!) Our rescue found a foster for him right away so we could start getting him super healthy and happy again. He has now been in foster care for many weeks and we believe is ready to start searching for his forever home. Poor Stratton has been through so much, we just want him to find the loving, forever home he truly deserves. Here is what his foster has to say about him: ... (Read More)When Stratton first got to my house weeks ago he was terrified and it took him a while to come out of his shell. After a few days and some meds to make him feel better he changed into a completely different dog. Stratton now instigates play with all my dogs, loves to run around the house with his toys, and is the biggest love and snuggle bug. Stratton seems potty trained, and seems to have been someone's family member in the past. It's always so hard because we don't knot their past, but he is a great, easy, smart dog. He may need some patience with pottying outside since he will be adopted in CO, which is so much colder than TX. Stratton sleeps in a dog bed in the fosters room, and sleeps through the whole night. Stratton also likes to hang out in his crate without being asked to go in it, so we believe he is crate trained and would do fine in a crate. Stratton would do great in a home with kids and/or dogs. He would also be great for an older individual or couple who want a snuggle/walking buddy. Stratton is just so easy he would do well with any family as long as they are willing to give him some time to come out of his shell again in a completely new home. If you are interested in adopting Stratton, please fill out an application which can be found at brighterdaysdogrescue.com You can also follow us on FB to get sneak peaks of dogs like Stratton that will be up for adoption once fully vetted. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-22-00099Carly (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

It's hard to imagine this truly beautiful (inside & out) Long-Haired Dachshund in a high-kill shelter in Houston. A compassionate Farfel's rescuer saved Carly's life and nursed her body and spirit back to joy and well-being. It's now getting to the time when Carly is ready to be transported to her new life in Colorado. Although it will be terribly hard for Carly's Texas rescuers to say goodbye...they know that she will have a great life. The following is a description of Carly by her rescuers who love her so much: --Carly is such a sweet pup just waiting to blossom. I've enjoyed watching her learn that the world can be a loving and ... (Read More)positive place. Carly had a hard start - but now she's learning about treats, belly rubs and that she's a very valuable girl! She may very well be initially shy, but just give her a bit of time and you'll have a new best friend. Carly loves the sunshine and playing outside...she has exactly the appropriate amount of energy for a 9 - 12 month old, 15 lb healthy pup. She would do great with a family who is home a lot to take walks, cuddle with and play together at the park or in the yard - she would love that! After she's had exercise and stimulation, she's ready to chill on the couch. Carly loves to snuggle, be petted and has been said to not get overly grumpy about very much. Her potentially gorgeous, shining hair appears to shed lightly and will require care...a periodic grooming and great nutrition would be perfect to keep her coat as beautiful and cottony-soft as it can be. Carly appears to be fine with other dogs but appreciates those that are respectful of her smaller size. Carly has been great with my 14 and 15 year old daughters and me! I haven't seen her around smaller kids, so that's an unknown. She's excellent with my mom, but might be a bit puppyish for a very advanced senior. Carly is a truly smart, very loving...and often very comical pup - true to her breeds!! What a gem of a best friend for a family with older kids or retirees who want to include a very cute and fun dog in their lives. Copper has the potential to be an exceptional and loyal companion. I know that Farfel's is very excited to participate in finding this special Doxie/Terrier her forever family. Carly appears to have a small cherry eye in one eye. By definition a cherry eye is a very simple issue involving the weakening of anchoring tissue on an ocular gland that's sometimes referred to as a third eyelid In dogs. This third eyelid plays a role that promotes oxygen supply and tear production to the eye. When working correctly, the third eyelid stays tucked away and out of sight. However, when anchoring tissue is not fully doing its job, this third eyelid can protrude from behind the eye and will be visible as a red or pink mass that partially obscures the corner of the eye. This is not a grave situation and can be fixed through massage or a minor procedure that Farfel's will pay for if our Denver vet is used. Carly will be arriving on transport in Denver in early April. If interested in this best friend who is so full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.     Zipper is a cute little 10 month old male chiweenie. He is cute and very spunky. He came from a high kill shelter in Texas. He was on his last day and was rescued by Wyoming Dachshund and Corgi Rescue and brought to Colorado to find his new furever home. He is about 12 lbs and up to date on all his shots, he is also neutered. He is good with other dogs and with kids. He is looking for a home where he can play and finally feel peace. He loves long walks, playing outside with his foster family and he loves cuddling at night time. Zipper could fit into any family and would love to have one in time for the holidays. He was picked up on the harsh ... (Read More)streets of Denver City, Texas and from there he went into a shelter. He has been in the shelter for a while hoping to find his home, but no one came for him. He was put on the euthanasia list and from there his days were numbered. He has not known a home, except for his foster's home. He really loves his foster home, but is looking for something more permanent. He is being fostered in Casper, WY. (Less)

Fiona and her 5 littermates were found on the streets of Houston TX. They were in very bad shape and scared to death. Our rescue knew we would be able to get them happy and healthy in no time, so we decided to bring them to CO to find their forever homes. We honestly have no idea what kind of dogs they are, especially since they are missing so much of their hair right now, your guess is as good as ours. We do believe they will be less than 20lbs full grown. Maybe even 10-15 but we cannot guarantee. The little hair that they do have looks very scuffy, and even fluffy on some dogs, so it makes us think they have some sort of small ... (Read More)terrier in them. Either way, what we do know is that they are all ADORABLE and so sweet. Despite everything they have been through, they are all so playful and social. Their foster mom has been teaching them to play and be the puppies they missed out on being the first 8 weeks of their lives. They finally know what a warm soft bed is and good food. With the right diet and vet care these babies will be fluffy, happy, and healthy in no time. We can already see their fur starting to come back and it's so exciting! We are looking for families who would be interested in adopting to do a foster to adopt situation. This way they can settle into their hopefully-forever-homes right away while still growing their hair back. We will fully cover all vet costs through our vet. These pups were dealt a pretty bad hand to start off, and we want to make sure they are loved and cherished for the rest of their lives because they so deserve it.     Felix and his 5 littermates were found on the streets of Houston TX. They are becoming so well socialized and each have such a wonderful personalities, any family willing to help them through the rough patch will be more than happy they did. Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Lola is a super sweet 5 year old chiweenie who came to CO from a Texas kill shelter. Lola has come to Colorado to find her furever home. She came with her family, her partner and her daughter. They were a cute little family and had a house and a human who loved them very much. Unfortunately, their human lost their job and also their home. Lola, her partner and her daughter sadly lost their home also. Their owner did not know what to do with Lola and her family and again, sadly surrendered them to the nearest shelter. Lola has had a lot of sadness in her life at a time when she should be going for walks, playing and sitting in laps. ... (Read More)Lola has had to protect her family for a long time and needs to know she is safe now. She needs a new family where she can be carefree again and go back to being loved and loving in return. She has had a lot of change in her life and the sooner she can fit into a family the better. She is up to date on all her shots and she is spayed. Lola is also micro chipped. She is good with other dogs and has never met cats. Although she is willing to try just about anything in order to find a great home. Lola is very playful and very loving. She also loves to cuddle. Lola would love to find her furever home in time for the holidays; she would love to have a bed and a blanket again. She is still a little scared and needs a lap and gentle hands to let her know she is safe. Thank you for considering Lola as a new member of your family. (Less)

Trixe has the sweetest temperament and an adorable personality. However, in a home with four kids and another dog, it has become abundantly clear that she would do best in a home where she is the 'only child' and can be showered with attention and spoiled rotten. She does great with our other dog, but wants so badly to be cuddled and doted on that my heart breaks for her. She has slept with us at night and does amazing. She also sleeps in her crate, but her preference is to sleep in bed with you. She loves her humans! Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Lilly is Rose's mom. She was rescued same as Rose and Maverik from a flooded shelter in Louisiana. She completed her hw treatment and we are hoping in few months that she will test negative. Our vet believes that she was punched or kicked since her jaw is dislocated or possibly even broken. We will do X rays prior adoption. Lilly eats normally but is sensitive on touch. She does not appear to be in discomfort until she is touched around that area. She will cry if touched there. She is great with kids and all people but she should be handled carefully since she is only 10 lb. She gets along great with dogs and cats and gets little bit jealous ... (Read More)when it comes to attention sharing but nothing that can not be corrected. She is calm and does not bark but she does sometimes think that she is a big dog and a 'boss lady' toward other dogs (that is when that jealousy comes out). She would be great dog with older couple or somebody who lives in apartment. Lilly is potty trained and crate trained. Somebody who is at home majority of times or is willing to take her along would be a great fit for her. Lilly is super cuddle bug and true lap dog. She have short hair and does not require grooming so her care is easy pizzy and does not require much but a nail trim and a bath. She is available for foster to adopt until she tests negative on her hw test which should be repeated in few months. All costs for the test will be covered by the Smiths Den Dog Rescue. We always want to make sure our dogs have clean bill of health before they go into their forever homes. Lilly is located in Mississippi but is available for adoption out of the state. We can organize ground and plane transport if adoption is offered out of the state. Her daughter just found happy home in Colorado and we are hoping that soon she will find one too. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-05-00042Connor (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Connor is a 9MO, 12lb poodle mix. Connor was adopted from a high kill shelter in TX. Connor thought he hit the jackpot when he was one of the few to get adopted from an overcrowded TX shelter. Unfortunately through no fault of his own, Connor was brought back to the same shelter only 10 days later. They told the shelter it was because they realized they didn't have enough money to take care of him. Our rescue didn't want Connor to end up in another bad situation, we decided to make it our responsibility to help Connor find a true forever home. Connor is now on his way to CO and is SO ready to find his forever home. Here is what ... (Read More)Connor's foster mom has to say about him: "He really is one that I want to keep! He's still got puppy energy, loves to jump around and play with his toys, but I see him as being more of a lap dog when he gets older. He loves to be right next to you and lay on your lap. Gets along great with our dogs. A couple of times he has given little growls when I spook him or take him food away from him. Honestly, who wouldn't with everything he has been through. Sleeps in his crate at night without a peep. Hasn't had any accidents in the house, but I take him out a lot. I am going to miss this little guy, but whoever gets to add him to their family will be so lucky!" We envision Connor going to a home with someone who wants a dog to play with, cuddle with, and train. Connor does need someone who wants to put time and energy into training him. He is on his way to becoming such a wonderful dog, but since he has been switched around so much, he needs to develop that communication with his adopters in a way only training and patience can provide, to make sure the great, loving, habits stick, and the negative habits subside. More than anything Connor just wants to be loved and snuggled, so a family that will dote on him all the time would be perfect. Connor is a low-non shedding dog, so he will need regular grooming appointments to keep him happy and handsome. That being said, Connor is NOT hypo-allergenic, so if you don't like shedding he is perfect for you, but if you are allergic to dogs, he would not be a good fit. If you are interested in adopting Connor, please fill out our application at brighterdaysdogrescue.com. If you are having trouble finding it, please email us at brighterdaysdogrescue@gmail.com and we can send it to you.     Willow is a senior red long haired dachshund. She is sweet little lady who is looking for a furever home. She was a surrender to the shelter in Grand Junction, CO. Her owners could not take care of her anymore and had no one who would take little Willow. In the last few years, Willow's owners had stopped attending to her medical needs and she had bad teeth and was very overweight. Willow loves to sleep the day away and cuddle and would love someone to cuddle up with. She has so much love to give, she will be your best friend for life. Willow already knows all of life's lessons, she knows that shoes are for walking, not chewing. She also knows that the great outdoors are for eliminating and carpets are for laying and playing. Willow is very smart and can still learn, she could be a great companion dog or even a therapy dog. Senior dogs are the most overlooked dogs in shelters and more often than not are euthanized to make room for puppies. Willow would make a wonderful addition to any home and is looking for the chance to show someone how wonderful she is. WDCR requires an application, home and reference check and a meet and greet with current pets and/or children in the home. Willow is being fostered in Cheyenne, WY. (Less)
