Rescue Me ID: 17-08-26-00148Davos (male)

Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected, Aggressive

I am sending this message on behalf of my friend who lives in Rogers, AR. I am trying to reach out to anyone who could possibly take her dog so she doesn't have to euthanize him. Here is her story: My family took in a stray male dachshund a little over a year ago. His name is Davos and he is young, only about 3 or 4. We are animal lovers, and had a dachshund mix in the past for many years. When we found him, he had heartworm and many other medical issues. We spent a lot of money, time and energy to get him well. He is in perfect health right now and caught up on all vaccinations, and is neutered and microchipped. Dachshunds, ... (Read More)especially males, have a tendency to nip at ankles of people who come into their home or on their property. He has done this on several occasions, even to my friend Katie. He had never drawn blood on these occasions. After the first one, we installed a baby gate and got a shock collar and have tried training and modifying his behavior to not do this, but we have not been able to stop him from doing this. We did manage to train him to not be a door dasher, but he does not follow any basic commands. Dachshunds are notoriously known for being difficult to train. He is very territorial. When he is chewing on his toys, he will charge at our two young daughters. He has never bitten them, but we have had to tell the girls do not go near him when he is playing with his toys. He is very protective and will bark at anybody who walks by the house. Two weeks ago he bit me in the face when I went to pick him up. He did not draw blood but there was a swollen bump there for a few days. I partially blame myself because when I was trying to pick him up he was agitated, but he should not do that. On Thursday, I was walking him after work with my two daughters. We were down the street and there was a man approaching his mailbox to get his mail. We had already walked past this area, but my dog started barking and pulling on the leash towards our neighbor. As I was pulling him back, he slipped out of his collar, ran up to this man, and bit him on the back of the knee. It drew quite a bit of blood. Then my dog ran off and our neighbors across the street found him. Our neighbor who was bit was very cool about it but I felt awful and knew we could not keep our dog. On Friday I tried contacting the humane society, who said they cannot take him because of the aggression issues. They told me that he would need to be euthanized and to call our vet. I tried a dachshund rescue but they would not take him for the same reasons. When I contacted our vet office, our dog's vet was not going to be in until this coming Tuesday, but was told that the other vet did not feel comfortable euthanizing him and I had to make a report to animal control. I called animal control, told them what happened, and reported the incident. They told me that really the only option is to have him euthanized, but when I called the vet back, they told me I would need to wait until Tuesday when his regular vet was in, and then they would make a decision whether or not to have him put down. If not, we will need to call around and find a vet who will. This is breaking my heart. I do not want to put him down because I love animals. However, he is a liability for us. We could get sued and lose our homeowners insurance. I do not want him hurting anyone else in our neighborhood or anywhere. We have two young daughters and they have friends that come over and I cannot keep this dog. We have tried and tried to help him but we cannot do anything else anymore. We both work full time and have given it our best. He is set to be euthanized Tuesday or Wednesday of this coming week. I realize he is difficult to place, but if there is anybody who loves animals and loves rehabilitating dogs, or you know anybody who does, I am doing all I can to save him from being put down. He loves belly rubs and can be affectionate, though on the whole he is rather aloof. If you or anybody you know is at all interested, please call me asap at 720-438-1707. My name is Kim Robinson. We will provide all medical records, supplies, etc. And, if you are interested, we would even be willing to help pay for very specialized obedience training. He would be best for a couple who DOES NOT have children (although he has been good with ours), and has the time and patience to rehabilitate a dog. Also would be best for a couple who does not live in a neighborhood full of children. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. It's long but I wanted to put the full story out there. Animal ID: 3Gigi (female)

Dachshund Mix

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Gigi was a rescue dog. She is probably only 2 or 3 years old at most. She had a litter of puppies 11 weeks ago. She is doing well, but is still rather protective of the puppies we still have at the house. She gets along with all the other dogs and humans unless they get too close to her food or if they mess with one of her puppies. She is a good mother! Gigi is very pretty and sweet. She likes to be loved on and sit in your lap or next to you. She also likes to play a little, but is not overly active. She does love to be outside, however. She is a very loveable dog. I need to find a foster parent for her until such time as I can take care ... (Read More)of her again. I am out of money and need to foster/adopt out all my dogs (ALL of whom are rescue dogs) while I get my house cleaned and fixed up to sell so I can move. My neighbor has threatened to kill all the dogs, so I have to protect them by moving/adopting them out to safe loving homes. Please, serious inquiries only. (Less)
